Cashless payment system

No More Issues with Coins at the Coffee Machine

Cashless payment options are gaining traction — now more than ever. Our customer, PeanutPay, was searching for a reliable solution to upgrade vending machines, such as those for snacks and coffee, to support modern, contactless payment systems.

Below, we highlight a specific use case that illustrates how this cashless payment project was implemented — from idea to successful rollout.

DESCRIPTION OF THE PROJECT

Client: PeanutPay - a startup company.

Type of product: Cashless payment module

Application Area:Food service and vending industry

Project Vision: PeanutPay set out to develop a modular system that would enable cashless payments on existing vending machines, such as snack and coffee dispensers. The goal was to retrofit machines with a smart solution that delivers both convenience and flexibility.

Technical Requirements: The multimedia panel needed to do far more than just register keystrokes and display content. It also had to detect specific installation conditions, generate switching signals, and manage complete menu navigation and internal processing logic.

The Challenge: An operational model had to be developed and prepared for full-scale production. PeanutPay planned to manufacture and preassemble parts of the system in-house. The final product was required to comply with all relevant legal regulations, industry standards, and functional safety requirements.

Scope of GETT’s Contribution: GETT supported the project through expert consultation and the manufacturing of tailored components — helping turn a startup concept into a scalable, market-ready solution.

PROJECT PROCEDURE

Initial Contact: The collaboration began at the Innovation Days in Chemnitz in 2022, where the first exchange between PeanutPay and GETT took place.

Fact-Finding Phase: In a follow-up meeting, GETT conducted a detailed assessment of PeanutPay’s existing module to evaluate its development status and technical feasibility.

Early Successes: Key improvements were made to enhance the product’s reliability, and all necessary testing procedures were successfully completed. With these milestones reached, the project moved forward to the first prototype phase — followed shortly by an initial small-scale production run.

Challenges Encountered: During series production, the custom insertion unit originally developed by PeanutPay proved insufficient for the required production volume and quality standards. As a result, GETT also took over the manufacturing of this component, ensuring a seamless and robust production process moving forward.
